Did you know?

That horses can sleep both standing up and lying down. They sleep better when they are in groups because some of the animals stand guard while others sleep. This is due to their instinct to always be on the lookout for predators. The average amount of time a horse sleeps in a day is two and a half hours. Most of the time the horse will sleep in 15 to 20 minute intervals throughout the day.

That a horse's heart weighs about nine pounds? That is bigger than the size of the average newborn (human) baby, which is 7 1/2 pounds.

That horses can find their way home from a very long way away, so they do not often get lost.

That horses make friends. A horse will often have a favorite "buddy".

That a red ribbon in a horse's tail means that it might kick, so you should stay away from behind the horse.
