A little Precious Moments history

Sam Butcher is the creator of the Precious Moments collection of images and figures. In 1974 Sam and a friend started an inspirational greeting card business which they named "Jonathan & David". Their greeting cards featured the children with the teardrop shaped eyes he had been drawing for his family and friends. In 1979 Enesco Corporation created the first porcelain figurines depicting Sam Butcher's "Precious Moments."


"Precious Moments" are now known and collected in countries all over the world. Carthage Missouri is home to the Precious Moments Chapel where a Precious Moments version of Michelangelo's "Creation" can be seen on the ceiling of the Chapel.
