Throughout the ages roses have been symbols of love, beauty, war, and politics.

These beautiful flowers have been used in many different ways. They have been used as decoration, confetti, the source for perfumes, and even for medicinal purposes. In the 15th century they were used as symbols of the warring sides in the “War of the Roses” and in the 17th century they were even used by royalty as form of payment.

There are many different colors of roses. Some colors have commonly accepted meanings.

• RED - A red rose usually says I Love You”. Red roses show respect, love, and passion.
• PINK – Pink roses signify happiness, appreciation, admiration, friendship, and sympathy.
• LIGHT PINK – Roses of this color imply grace, gentility, and joy.
• DARK PINK – Dark pink roses tell someone you are thankful.
• LAVENDER – Lavender represents love at first sight or enchantment.
• WHITE – White roses signify spiritual love and purity, humility, innocence, and charm. They also express sympathy.
• YELLOW – A rose of this color says, “I care”. These roses signify friendship, joy, gladness, and freedom.
• CORAL – Coral roses convey desire.
• PEACH – Peach roses imply modesty.
• ORANGE – These roses show enthusiasm, desire, and fascination.

Certain combinations of colors in a bouquet seem also to have special meanings.

• WHITE and RED roses together signify a unity.
• RED and YELLOW roses together say “CONGRATULATIONS!”
